Unless you have been living under a rock, you have probably seen and heard countless terrifying hard facts that our earth is dying. We must all do our parts in making sure that we're finding ways to reduce waste and to make smarter choices. Here is how the makeup community is promoting an eco-friendly approach to beauty and skincare products on Instagram! HITTING PAN 2020HITTING PAN: Hitting pan is when the bottom floor of your makeup is becoming more visible. For example, if you have been using your beloved power for months and the silver floor starts peaking through, you are hitting pan. It generally applies to eyeshadows, bronzers and powder based products HOWEVER this trend is focused on all beauty and skincare products to ensure that nothing is going to waste. Instagram Blogger @beauty.and.panning states that the movement has relieved some of the overwhelming pressure to constantly purchase more makeup and has given her more appreciation for the products that she has. The trend has spurred several accounts and bloggers to record their journey to use every product that has been gathering dust in their drawers. In today's world, filled with constant ads and promotions, we can easily succumb to the pressure to buy more and feel that our makeup or skincare routine is not adequate enough. This movement has given me food for thought as it made me realise that I have several beauty products that I have never even touched and yet, I always feel the need to purchase more.
Take note from the movement and become more conscious in what you have before purchasing more. You don't need four types of bronzers and a billion different shades of taupe brown. You'll not only save your money in the long run but more importantly, you'll be saving the planet.

The bride must have her dress - This is a vital rule! I had to remind several brides that they were the main focus and that they needed to find their dress first to ensure that finding her perfect wouldn't be hindered in any way. Once the bride knows what she is wearing on her big day, it will also become clearer on what bridesmaids styles will compliment her dress. 2. Know the theme of the wedding - It's a wise idea to follow a theme as it will become easier to find styles amongst the vast ranges of bridesmaids brands. For example, if the bride has chosen a vintage chic wedding, styles can be narrowed down to lace, tulle or soft pastels. Knowing the theme will also give the sales advisor an idea of what you're looking for. 3. Enforce a budget - It's important to know what you are willing to pay for! Don't be afraid to inform the sales advisor also. It will save the heartbreak of falling in love with a dress that may cost the same amount as a small horse. ALSO it's important to remember that the more bridesmaids that you have, the smaller a budget you will have per dress. 4. Avoid concentrating on colours - I always find that brides become consumed with colours and not the style of a bridesmaid dress. It is best to have your bridesmaids try on every dress because it will give you an idea of what types of dresses that are working and not working. 5. Take pictures! - Take pictures of all of the options that are being tried on - provided the boutique/store allows it. After the stress of trying on a billion dresses, relax over a coffee (or a barrel of wine) and reflect over of all the options. Taking photos will also reveal if the dresses picture well. 6. Keep on schedule - It’s best to have all bridesmaids dresses signed, sealed, delivered and yours 3 months before the big day. Most brands can take up to 12 weeks to deliver an order. Also, most boutiques will fail to let you know that all brands are closed for the month of February due to the Chinese New Year, so bare that in mind if you're ordering for a summer wedding. 7. Appointments! Appointments! Appointments! - Make appointments where you can otherwise you will have a day wasted of being told ‘‘sorry but we don’t take walk-ins’’ - Unless you're Helen from ‘Bridesmaids’. 8. Wear smart lingerie - It’s a very good idea to have your bridesmaids trying on dresses in nude seamless undies and a strapless bra. It will give everyone a better idea of how the dresses will look on the big day - no one needs to see black granny pants coming through a blush dress. ‘ 9. Be open to multiway dresses - Many brides detest the idea of a multiway bridesmaid dress because ‘‘they have been done so much’’. However, they are a very good option if your bridesmaids vary drastically in sizes, as they fit everyone. ….And that is it. Best of luck planning your wedding! XO DARA
